Going into the class I was slightly late but excited to learn nevertheless. As the class began we were explained the role of a buyer in the fashion industry, after that we were explained what range planning is and then for the class activity we were asked to choose a retailer and make a list of products they sell. After this, we were taught about the range pyramid and were asked to apply it to our collected data.
Which helped us understand the goals of different brands like making it clear that a brand like Gucci has commercial and monetary goals whereas a brand like Louis vittion does not. We also learned that different brands have different structures depending on their target consumers. Which was all quite fascinating to me which led me to do further research on this topic after coming home and learning quite a few new ideas about the fashion industry and its market base and business strategies.
After this we were asked to do a task where we were provided with the CAD of sunglasses and to choose a brand and to use sunglasses as an example we were supposed to put it in a pyramid structure, keeping the brand strategy in mind and choose a pyramid structure accordingly. and were further explained our SDS to us.
